There are 3 main types of skin cancer.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma
Both are also called non-melanoma and are most common in the classification of non-melanomas, other nonmelanoma skin cancers are Kaposi's sarcoma, carcinoma of Merkel cells and cutaneous lymphoma.
Melanoma
Melanoma is the most aggressive of these, and carcinomas both basal and squamous represent a very small percentage (1% approximately) of cancer deaths.
But cancer is melanoma approximately 4% of all skin cancers but is responsible for almost 80% of skin cancer deaths due to malignancy.
