Scientists in Cuba announced the discovery of a vaccine that can assure extend the life of patients with lung cancer. Cuban officials say laboratory tests show that the survival rate of such patients increased by an average of four to five months. According to Deputy Health Minister Roberto Gonzalez, although the vaccine is not a cure for cancer, has fewer side effects than chemotherapy. The drug in question is a modified protein that attacks only the cancer cells. The researchers assert that the vaccine also improves the quality of life of patients and relieves symptoms such as difficulty breathing and loss of appetite. Effect of snuff The use of the vaccine has been approved, for now, only in Cuba. It was Cuba that took snuff to the world for

the first time, when Christopher Columbus brought to Europe. The Caribbean island remains one of the largest producers of cigars in the world. The snuff is also used for the production of domestic consumption of cigarettes. The number of smokers here is still as high as the incidence of lung cancer. Cuba began to develop its biotechnology industry in the 80s, partly as a reaction to the trade embargo imposed by the United States, and you have to market vaccines against meningitis and hepatitis B. Today, the pharmaceutical industry exports are a major source of revenue for the country. The drug against lung cancer is being tested now in other countries like the UK, Canada and Peru. However, for now, their use has been approved only in Cuba.
